To Ngoc Thanh

Taught by his father, To Ngoc Thanh started to paint since he was 4 years old and at the age of 9 he worked as an assistant in a lacquer workshop to learn the skills.

His father is the distinguished artist TO NGOC VAN, a renowned artist graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts de l’Indochine and is considered one of Vietnam’s top artists in the first half of the 20th century.

He has won many international art prizes in Austria, Japan and the former Soviet Union. He has been awarded a “For The Cause of Art” medal for his contribution to the Vietnamese fine arts scene.

To Ngoc Thanh often expresses the beauty of nature and landscapes of the country, especially his love and passion for Sapa and its unique tribal culture as well as his hometown Hanoi where he still lives.
